Mental Health Social Work

One of the ways we offer counselling support at Little Window is through a social work lens. A Mental Health Social Worker (MHSW) will be skilled in creating a safe space for you to reflect on, express and process your inner and outer worlds, through holistic support, counselling, advocacy and clinical knowledge and skills.

Social work is a values-based way of working with people, focusing on empowerment, self-determination, human rights and social justice. Engaging with a Social Worker at Little Window will involve you being supported through a bio-psychosocial, integrated approach to therapy, to enhance your well-being at a personal level, and also supporting you to identify and address issues that may be impacting on your mental health or may be creating inequality, injustice and discrimination.

What is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW)?

AMHSWs are different to Social workers in that they specialise in clinical mental health social work services, and people who access counelling with them are able to receive a Medicare rebate under a Mental Health Care Plan. AMHSWs are specialist practitioners, and are particularly skilled in dealing with complex situations involving trauma, family conflict, unemployment and homelessness.
