Hi, I’m Liz.

I have always been a listener and collector of stories. However, it was my work for two decades with people fleeing persecution which truly deepened my commitment to the process of therapy. This grounding in trauma-informed practice shapes my approach to all therapy by prioritising collaboration, choice, and safety. I believe that therapy is a courageous unfolding where each person shares their stories in their own way and in their own time. I am here to provide a steady, warm and accepting presence bearing witness to your journeying. In this holding space, I embrace the sharing of painful experiences and emotions, as well as allow for celebration, appreciation and humour.

I have a deep respect for the range of human experience and welcome diversity across cultures, genders, sexualities, abilities and neurotypes. I enjoy working with people across the age span; adults, young people and children. While I initially commenced my professional journey as an adult counsellor, my practice has led me to the joyful and profound world of expressive therapy with children. In working with children who have experienced loss, fear and upheaval, I have been amazed by their capacity to heal using their language of play. The research now recognises the importance of play for positive mental health and social, emotional and cognitive development. It is a privilege to work with children, and I consider parents/caregivers as important partners in the process. I have also worked in adolescent mental health supporting young people as they traverse the common stressors and changes of this life stage.

With my background in attachment theory, I'll serve as a secure base for you to explore what matters most. I adjust my approach based on your needs, with relationship always at the heart of the process. I believe that when a trusting space is created, we are growth oriented and can make the best use of our capabilities.

While I use an informal and person-led style, I will also scaffold your progress when necessary. This may also take the form of psychoeducation or using practices drawn from my additional training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Grief and Loss, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cross-cultural Practice, Polyvagal Theory, Neurobiology and Attachment Theory. With children, I have undertaken extensive training and supervised practice in exploratory non-directive play therapy and play skill building interventions. My additional postgraduate study in perinatal mental health has equipped me to provide evidence-based and compassionate support to expectant and new parents. I recognise this precious time as filled with both vulnerability and immense potential for both caregivers and infants.
