Hello, I'm Anne.
As a registered psychologist, I love the process of discovery with my clients, and see them as the experts on themselves. I might know quite a lot generally about how our minds and bodies work, but I view my role as simply helping you to understand your own mental state and how it changes, and to manage stress and challenges.
My background is in community mental health, and I use a broadly relational and psychodynamic approach to therapy, focusing particularly on how our early relationships, especially with primary caregivers, shape the way we experience and internalise a sense of ourselves, others, and our relationships throughout life. I tailor my sessions and approach flexibly, according to your own needs and context, listening from a not-knowing stance, incorporating mindfulness, and other techniques from cognitive, interpersonal and somatic therapies.
Collaborating together we can work to understand and reduce uncontrollable or distressing extremes of emotion, and unhelpful patterns in thinking or behaviour that may be keeping you stuck, confused, or lost. In building your emotion awareness and acceptance, I aim to help you resolve hurts and trauma, develop an integrated sense of identity, and more secure relationships with your self and with others.
I have a special interest in working with clients who struggle with self-acceptance and self-awareness due to unresolved trauma or psychotic illness, emotional distress due to insecure attachment relationships, unstable and complex personality organisation, mood disorders (e.g. bipolar and schizoaffective disorders), intense anxiety and depression, cycles of relationship rupture, and substance use.
I enjoy learning, and guiding clients through their own exploration and resolution. I’m excited to be part of the Little Window team, and look forward to meeting you and working with you.
