Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT)

Zumi is a trained therapy dog who is at Little Window 5 days a week. He works in a team with Keira, our Mental Health Occupational Therapist and Practice Manager. Zumi’s nature is intuitive and gentle. We love having Zumi in our therapy space as his presence immediately creates a calming  and comforting effect on both our team and the people we work with, through the release of endorphins.

Keira will often use Zumi in her sessions with children, teens and adults in varying ways. He may just sit with you to support you to feel relaxed and supported during your session, or he may be involved in intentional activities with you in order to work towards particular therapy goals.

Animal Assisted Therapy, used alongside other talk and creative therapies, has been shown to be incredibly effective in assisting with anxiety or emotional difficulties, confidence and self-esteem building, exploring and reflecting upon social situations and challenges, building social skills, improving self-care habits, and improving communication. Zumi can even be used to help with fear of dogs, or phobias related to dogs.

We understand that some people may experience allergies to dogs, or be fearful of or have an aversion to dogs. If this is the case, please let us know and our team will ensure that we accommodate for this on the day of your appointment to make sure you feel safe and comfortable.
